BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION PLAN (BIP)

Tips:

  • When writing a BIP it is important to consider what is feasible in the classroom environment.
  • Make the interventions clear, specific, and feasible. It is not about the number of interventions, but the thoughtfulness and alignment with the behavior function that is critical.
  • BIPs are most useful when they are written in conjunction with all teachers working with the student, and the psychologist who can observe and collect data.
  • A graphic representation of the BIP is a visual way to represent all components of the plan, and can be an effective way to share the plan with parents, paraprofessionals, and all individuals working with the student to ensure adherence and understanding of the plan.
